North Korean leader Kim Jong Un arrived in the Chinese border city of Dandong on Saturday, accompanied by Beijing’s top political adviser, state media reported, according to Anadolu Agency.
Kim reportedly entered Dandong via the New Yalu River Bridge, which connects North Korea and China. Dandong is in China’s northeastern Liaoning province.
Wang Huning, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, accompanied Kim. Wang conveyed Chinese President Xi Jinping’s “cordial greetings and best wishes” to the North Korean leader, Xinhua reported.
No further details were provided about Kim’s visit or meetings with Chinese officials.
The visit took place a day before the anniversary of China’s entry into the 1950-1953 Korean War. Kim was expected to return to North Korea after Saturday’s visit, South Korea’s Yonhap News reported.
China and North Korea opened the 3-kilometer (2-mile) New Yalu River Bridge this month after a long delay. The countries aim to revive trade following years of strained ties and pandemic-related disruptions.
Kim last visited China in September 2025 to attend the 80th Victory Day celebrations in Beijing, where he held a summit with Xi.
