Poland head coach Jan Urban has expressed dissatisfaction with Sabah defender Tymoteusz Puchacz’s performance in defense. He made the remarks at a news conference ahead of a Nations League match to be played in Zenica, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Urban said he preferred to use Przemysław Frankowski on the left flank in a four-man defense. According to the coach, Jakub Kiwior would not play in that position unless necessary. Urban said his preference for Frankowski showed that he was not fully satisfied with Puchacz’s defensive play, adding that the player was more inclined toward a midfield role.
Puchacz’s performance criticized
The coach’s comments followed Poland’s 3-1 defeat to Sweden. Puchacz started the match and was replaced by Frankowski in the 65th minute.
Sport.pl reported that Puchacz was passive in defense and struggled in duels with Patrik Wålemark. The Polish player received a yellow card midway through the first half. Eurosport also highlighted his defensive difficulties, noting that Wålemark got past Puchacz on the flank during Sweden’s early attacks and that the defender was not active in the build-up to the first goal.
Polish media reported that Puchacz looked more confident when joining attacks and that his crosses found teammates. The 27-year-old was called up to Poland’s squad for the current international break for the first time in two years.
