Italy remains the primary trading partner of Azerbaijan, President Ilham Aliyev stated during a joint press conference with the President of the Council of Ministers of Italy, Giorgia Meloni.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the head of state emphasized the high level of cooperation between the two nations. "Your presence in Azerbaijan today once again demonstrates the profound nature of Azerbaijan-Italy relations," President Ilham Aliyev remarked, highlighting that the two countries are officially strategic partners.
The partnership between Baku and Rome is anchored by significant energy cooperation and growing non-oil sector trade. Italy is the largest purchaser of Azerbaijani crude oil and a key destination for natural gas exported via the Southern Gas Corridor. Beyond energy, the two nations have expanded collaboration into areas such as infrastructure, education, and the restoration of liberated territories in Garabagh, where several Italian firms are currently involved in major reconstruction projects.
