Israeli forces blew up a school, set homes on fire and carried out air and artillery strikes across southern Lebanon on Saturday, according to Lebanon’s National News Agency.
In Houla, in the Marjayoun district, troops planted explosives in a private school and detonated them, destroying the building, the agency reported. They also set fire to homes in the town.
Strikes reported across southern Lebanon
Israeli artillery shelled Khiam and repeatedly targeted Tallouseh and Bani Hayyan. Warplanes carried out two strikes on Bani Hayyan, the agency said.
In the Nabatieh district, Israeli aircraft struck Kfar Tibnit in two waves. The outskirts of Mayfadoun and Zawtar al-Sharqiyah came under “heavy and concentrated” artillery fire, while Israeli forces carried out large explosions in Aitaroun and Tallouseh.
In the Tyre district, artillery targeted Mansouri and Majdal Zoun. Earlier on Saturday, several large explosions in Mansouri sent white smoke rising around residential areas. The blasts caused tremors and were heard in Tyre and nearby villages, according to the agency.
Agreement envisages Israeli withdrawal
The agency said Israeli forces had previously destroyed most of Mansouri’s public school, leaving only a small section standing.
On June 26, Lebanon and Israel signed a US-sponsored framework agreement in Washington that provides for a gradual Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory and the deployment of the Lebanese army in areas vacated by Israeli forces.
Despite the agreement, Israel has continued attacks in southern Lebanon and maintains a military presence in parts of the region, including territory it has occupied for decades and areas seized during more recent wars and military operations.
