Israel gives British diplomats seven days to leave

Israel has reportedly given British diplomats working in Ramallah, as well as British representatives at the Gaza Coordination Center in Kiryat Gat in southern Israel, seven days to leave the country.

Operative Information Center-OMM reported, citing foreign media outlets.

According to the reports, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar has ordered the closure of the British consulate in occupied East Jerusalem. The consulate has been instructed to cease operations within 30 days.

Israel made the decision amid diplomatic tensions with the United Kingdom following London's ban on imports of products from Israeli settlements in the West Bank.

Foreign ministers from Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Iceland, Ireland, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom recently issued a joint written statement announcing plans to impose restrictions on trade in products manufactured in Israeli settlements.

The British consulate in East Jerusalem serves as a key diplomatic channel for the United Kingdom's engagement with the Palestinians. The West Bank and East Jerusalem remain central issues in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, while international positions on Israeli settlements have contributed to growing diplomatic friction.
