"Israel's ongoing attacks on Lebanon will lead to immediate and serious consequences, and Iran will take all necessary measures to protect its allies," stated Esmail Baghaei, spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, Baghaei strongly condemned what he described as aggressive and terrorist operations by the Zionist regime against various regions of Lebanon. These operations have resulted in numerous civilian casualties, as well as the destruction of residential homes and critical infrastructure.
Baghaei warned of the severe repercussions of Israel's actions for regional peace and security. He explicitly placed the responsibility for the ongoing aggression on the United States, citing the US-Iran memorandum on conflict resolution. Specifically, he referenced Article 1 of the June 18, 2026, memorandum on ending the war, which stipulates that halting the conflict in Lebanon is an integral part of a broader agreement to end hostilities across all fronts.
"Iran will take all necessary measures to protect its interests, security, rights, and the rights of its allies," he emphasized.
The situation in Lebanon remains a critical flashpoint in the broader Middle East conflict. Tensions between Israel and Hezbollah, the Iran-backed militant group based in Lebanon, have escalated significantly in recent years, drawing in international diplomatic efforts to prevent a full-scale regional war. The mention of the June 2026 memorandum highlights the ongoing, complex diplomatic attempts to manage these hostilities through international mediation.
