Iran shot down a US drone over the southern port city of Bandar Abbas. AnewZ, citing Iran’s Tasnim news agency, reported on Sunday, November 25, that the military had confirmed the incident.
Before the incident, US President Donald Trump said on Saturday that Washington could strike Iran on Sunday if it failed to reach a “big, beautiful” deal with Tehran.
Trump also said at a rally in the US state of Georgia that day that, following the deaths of some Iranian leaders, he was unsure whom the United States was negotiating with: “The first and second most senior leaders of Iran are dead. I have to stop now, because I need to figure out who we are talking to”.
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was killed in a joint US-Israeli strike in late February, triggering the US-Iran conflict. Ali Larijani, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, the country’s top body for defense and foreign policy, was killed in an Israeli strike in mid-March.
Houthis say they targeted facilities in Saudi Arabia
Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthis attacked Saudi Arabia’s oil infrastructure and airports on Saturday.
Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree said the group targeted King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, an Aramco facility in the port city of Yanbu, the Rabigh oil refinery, crude oil pumping stations and the East-West Pipeline.
Saree also said the group targeted King Fahd International Airport in Dammam, the airport in Najran and an airbase in Khamis Mushait.
Yemen’s Houthis repeated their warning on Sunday against using King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh. The warning came hours after the airport announced that two terminals would resume handling flights following an interruption earlier in the month.
Saree urged passengers, airport staff and airlines not to use King Khalid International Airport, saying it remained a “military target”. The airport said it would resume flights from two terminals as part of efforts to restore operations suspended after a Houthi attack earlier in the month.
Saudi Arabia says it intercepted missiles and drones
Saudi Arabia’s air defenses intercepted drones and missiles over Riyadh and the country’s southern regions on Sunday, according to the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen.
Saudi Arabia’s civil defense authority issued emergency alerts for Riyadh, Abha and Khamis Mushait on Sunday, then said minutes later that the danger had passed.
The coalition said two drones and one ballistic missile were launched toward Riyadh, while a cruise missile was fired at the southern city of Khamis Mushait. It later said 10 ballistic missiles launched toward southern Saudi Arabia had been intercepted.
Yemen’s internationally recognized government said the Houthis fired three ballistic missiles at the coast guard in the southern port city of Aden.
Separately, security sources said an explosives-laden drone attacked an Iranian Kurdish opposition camp northeast of the Iraqi city of Erbil on Saturday.
