“Iran is still reviewing the United States’ response to Tehran’s seven-point proposal.”
“Operative Information Center-OMM” reports that Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ismail Baghaei made the remarks.
He also said that talks between the two countries were continuing through mediators.
According to Baghaei, the proposal under discussion at the UN General Assembly covers Iran’s legitimate demands. These include lifting the naval blockade, ending the war on all fronts and releasing Iran’s frozen assets.
He added that these issues had also been included in a previously agreed memorandum of understanding.
Baghaei said Tehran would convey its position to the mediators after completing its review of the proposal. He also stressed that new US sanctions should be lifted and that Washington should end what he described as interventionist and aggressive actions.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson also said that Pakistan and Qatar remained the main mediators between Tehran and Washington.
Baghaei also disputed US President Donald Trump’s statement that the transport of energy supplies through the Strait of Hormuz had returned to pre-war levels. He said security in the strait would not be restored as long as Washington continued its naval blockade and economic sanctions against Iran.
