Iran has attributed the failure of negotiations regarding the Strait of Hormuz, mediated by Oman, to interference by the United States and threats issued by US President Donald Trump.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, this information was reported by "Sepahnews," the official media outlet of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
An unnamed Iranian official stated that Tehran will not enter into any agreement while under pressure or threats of military intervention. The official emphasized that Iran's stance remains firm regarding its sovereign rights and regional security.
Reports indicate that an initial agreement had been reached between the parties on June 14, with Pakistan acting as a mediator. Under that framework, the US was expected to unfreeze Iranian assets, while in exchange, Iran would open the Strait of Hormuz and refrain from imposing transit fees for 60 days. However, it is alleged that the US failed to fulfill its obligations by keeping the assets blocked and attempting to establish an alternative route through Oman's territorial waters.
Iran characterized these actions as a violation of the agreement, subsequently restricting passage through the Strait of Hormuz and employing military force against vessels attempting unauthorized transit. This led to clashes on July 8, with tensions persisting for approximately two weeks.
Currently, efforts are underway to normalize the situation through renewed dialogue. According to Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei, some progress has been made during technical and political discussions held with Oman. The Strait of Hormuz remains a critical global maritime chokepoint, through which a significant portion of the world's oil supply passes, making regional stability a matter of international concern.
