Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it had destroyed a US-operated maritime drone near the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz.
According to a report published by the IRGC’s official news platform, Sepah News, the force’s navy struck an unmanned vehicle identified as a Saildrone with the hull number 5838.
The IRGC said in a statement that destroying the unmanned vehicle had prevented what it described as an “aggressive mission.”
Footage released in connection with the incident shows what is alleged to be a US-owned sailing drone struck by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards near the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz. The footage was reportedly recorded on Sept. 11, 2026.
Meanwhile, the United States announced economic sanctions against Kataib Hezbollah, an Iran-backed Shiite armed group in Iraq.
In a statement, the US State Department said the measures showed that the Quds Force of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps had used Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Forces, as well as commercial networks in Iraq, the United Arab Emirates, Türkiye and Lebanon, to finance terrorism and evade international sanctions.
The Strait of Hormuz is a major global energy corridor connecting the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman. Its strategic location has made it a frequent focus of tensions involving Iran, the United States and regional actors.
