Tensions in the Middle East have escalated significantly as the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced it has conducted a large-scale retaliatory operation against US military facilities stationed in the region.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing reports from the Tasnim news agency, the IRGC stated that this operation was a direct response to US airstrikes targeting Iranian military and civilian infrastructure along its coastal regions.

In an official statement, the IRGC claimed that US forces violated ceasefire protocols earlier in the day by attacking military bases and civilian sites along the coastlines of the Hormozgan and Mahshahr provinces. In retaliation, Iran's naval and aerospace forces launched a coordinated operation, targeting 85 strategic US military assets.

The statement identified key targets, including military facilities at the Port of Salman, the base of the US Navy's 5th Fleet in Bahrain, and the Ali Al-Salem Air Base in Kuwait. The IRGC further reported that a US-made MQ-9 drone was shot down while flying over the city of Khormuj in the Bushehr province.

This escalation occurs against a backdrop of long-standing geopolitical friction between Tehran and Washington. The Middle East remains a volatile region where regional powers and international actors frequently engage in proxy conflicts and direct military posturing, often centered around strategic waterways like the Strait of Hormuz and critical energy infrastructure.
