The Congressional Research Service (CRS) has prepared a detailed report on damage to and losses of US aircraft during military operations against Iran.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the document says a total of 81 US military aircraft, including planes, helicopters and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), have been destroyed, crashed or seriously damaged following US and Israeli strikes on Iran since February 28. More than half of the losses — 45 — were MQ-9 Reaper reconnaissance and strike drones.
Based on estimates citing the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), total damage is valued at between $1.9 billion and $3.3 billion, depending on the Pentagon’s plans to replace weapons and equipment. Congressional analysts note that the losses are adding pressure to the US Department of Defense’s combat readiness and the defense industry’s production capacity.
