The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran has strongly condemned an attack by the United States on the Iranian merchant vessel "Touska" in the Sea of Oman, near the country's territorial waters, labeling the incident an illegal and criminal act.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the ministry issued a statement asserting that this "piratical attack" constitutes a gross violation of international legal norms, the United Nations Charter, and recent ceasefire agreements. The ministry further noted that during the incident, the ship's crew and their family members were intimidated and taken hostage by US forces under the administration of US President Donald Trump.

The statement from the Iranian MFA reads:

“The UN, the Security Council, and the International Maritime Organization must immediately condemn this attack. Urgent measures must be taken to ensure the release of the ship and everyone on board.”

The Sea of Oman is a strategically vital waterway connecting the Arabian Sea with the Strait of Hormuz, serving as a primary transit route for global energy supplies. Tensions in these waters have frequently escalated due to geopolitical rivalries and maritime security concerns. The Iranian MFA emphasized that the United States bears full responsibility for the consequences of this "dangerous escalation," stating that Tehran reserves the right to use all available means to defend its sovereignty and protect the rights of its citizens.
