President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received Tajikistan’s Prime Minister Qohir Rasulzoda on Sept. 25.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that President Ilham Aliyev said Azerbaijan and Tajikistan are friendly and brotherly countries and noted that good opportunities exist to further develop the potential of bilateral cooperation. He highlighted the importance of his visits to Tajikistan, visits by the President of Tajikistan to Azerbaijan, and other reciprocal visits at various levels in expanding relations.
President Ilham Aliyev said Qohir Rasulzoda’s visit to Azerbaijan created an opportunity to discuss issues on the agenda, including transport and logistics, mutual economic activity, and increasing trade turnover.
Thanking the president for receiving him and for the hospitality, Qohir Rasulzoda conveyed the greetings and best wishes of Tajik President Emomali Rahmon to the head of state.
President Ilham Aliyev expressed his gratitude for the greetings and asked him to convey his own greetings to the head of the Tajik state. The head of state recalled with pleasure his meetings and conversations with Emomali Rahmon in Azerbaijan and Tajikistan, as well as on the sidelines of international events.
The guest said Tajikistan highly values its relations of friendship and strategic partnership with Azerbaijan and noted that cooperation between the two countries had entered a new stage of development thanks to the strong political will of both presidents and dialogue based on trust. In this regard, the prime minister recalled the “Declaration on Strategic Partnership between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Tajikistan,” signed by the presidents of Azerbaijan and Tajikistan in Baku in 2024.
Qohir Rasulzoda highlighted President Ilham Aliyev’s personal contribution to expanding bilateral relations.
The prime minister spoke about the importance of Azerbaijan’s “ASAN service” model and expressed interest in implementing it in Tajikistan.
The sides discussed the transit of Tajik goods through Azerbaijan to international markets via the Middle Corridor, as well as cooperation in metallurgy, energy and agriculture.
Highlighting the historical ties between the two peoples, the sides noted that they share common roots. They stressed the importance of holding regular cultural, humanitarian and sporting events between the two countries.
The prime minister of Tajikistan thanked Azerbaijan for allocating quotas for Tajik students.
The sides noted that Azerbaijan and Tajikistan have significant tourism potential and stressed the importance of launching a direct air route between Baku and Dushanbe. Growth in tourism and passenger transportation was welcomed. They emphasized the importance of holding various events to promote the tourism opportunities of both countries.
The meeting also included discussions on matters of mutual interest and an exchange of views on the prospects for bilateral relations.
