President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received Luis Morsing, the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Sweden to Azerbaijan, on September 23.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the ambassador presented his credentials to the head of state.
President Ilham Aliyev held talks with the ambassador.
The head of state said he hoped that bilateral relations would continue to develop successfully in the coming years and that new areas of cooperation would be identified. He emphasized the importance of reciprocal visits and meetings at various levels, and said there were good opportunities for partnership in investment, trade and business.
President Ilham Aliyev wished the ambassador success in his diplomatic activities.
Thanking the head of state for receiving him, the ambassador stressed that he would work diligently to further expand bilateral relations.
The ambassador congratulated President Ilham Aliyev on the achievements related to the peace agenda between Azerbaijan and Armenia. He also said he welcomed steps taken to build trust between the two countries.
Noting that many Azerbaijani students are studying in Sweden and that their academic performance is highly valued, the ambassador expressed hope that they would contribute to the development of Azerbaijan-Sweden relations during their future careers.
Luis Morsing also touched on the positive dynamics in relations between Azerbaijan and the European Union, stressing that negotiations on a bilateral agreement had resumed.
The ambassador highly valued Azerbaijan’s humanitarian assistance to Ukraine.
Addressing the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, President Ilham Aliyev said that Azerbaijan was the initiator and author of the peace agenda, describing the peace achieved between the two countries as unprecedented in the world.
Describing Azerbaijan-European Union relations as currently very good, the head of state recalled this year’s visits to Azerbaijan by President of the European Council António Costa, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission Kaja Kallas, as well as his meetings with them on the sidelines of international events.
The meeting included an exchange of views on the current state and prospects for developing relations between Azerbaijan and Sweden, as well as discussions on issues of mutual interest.
