Hosting the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) is a great honor for Azerbaijan, President Ilham Aliyev said in an interview with Euronews television.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the head of state emphasized the international prestige associated with hosting the event. "Hosting WUF13 is a great honor for us. With 182 countries represented, this is a clear example of the respect shown to Azerbaijan. According to my information, the number of participants has reached a record level. This demonstrates both the importance of the topic and the fact that the host country possesses extensive international relations," President Ilham Aliyev stated.
The Azerbaijani leader noted that the forum provides a vital platform to inform the international community about the work accomplished so far and future objectives, while also benefiting from the experience of global partners. "The level of participation and the number of heads of state and government show that urban planning issues are among the topics many world leaders focus on today. As I mentioned in my speech, the preservation of historical and architectural heritage must be harmonized with the modernization of cities," the President added.
The World Urban Forum, established by the United Nations, is the premier global conference on sustainable urbanization. By hosting WUF13 in Baku, Azerbaijan continues to solidify its role as a major hub for international diplomacy and high-level global discussions. The event follows Azerbaijan's successful track record of organizing large-scale international summits, reflecting the country's commitment to sustainable development and modern urban transformation while maintaining its unique cultural identity.
