Officers of the State Customs Committee’s Astara Customs Administration have seized a particularly large quantity of drugs following a series of operational and customs-control measures.
The Operative Information Center-OMM, citing the committee, reported that customs officers inspected a freight vehicle arriving in Azerbaijan from Iran at the import-control lane of the Astara customs post.
Although the inspection found no items concealed from customs control in the vehicle, the driver’s behavior raised the officers’ suspicions.
Officers then searched the driver and found three packages strapped to his waist with a corset. The packages contained 3,000 methadone pills, a particularly large quantity of the drug.
Customs officers also inspected two packages the driver had thrown onto the grounds of the post during the control measures.
Those packages contained 2 kilograms and 950 grams of homemade heroin, classified as a particularly large quantity.
An investigation into the case is underway.
Astara Customs Administration is part of the State Customs Committee, which oversees customs controls at Azerbaijan’s borders and works to prevent the illegal movement of goods, including narcotics.
