Operative Information Center-OMM reports that this was stated in a message from UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, which was read by Igor Garafulic, the UN Resident Coordinator ad interim in Azerbaijan, during the 1st General Assembly of the Global South NGO Platform (GSNP).
According to the Secretary-General, the NGO platform serves as a vital mechanism for solidarity, dialogue, and partnership among the countries of the Global South. The message emphasized that such initiatives are essential for addressing shared challenges and fostering sustainable development across developing nations.
Azerbaijan has increasingly positioned itself as a bridge between the Global North and the Global South, particularly through its successful chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) from 2019 to 2023. By hosting international forums and leading global climate initiatives such as COP29, Baku continues to strengthen its reputation as a key diplomatic hub for multilateral diplomacy and South-South cooperation.
