As part of efforts to bolster NATO's defensive capabilities, a German-owned Patriot air defense system has been deployed at a military base in Turkey.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing international media reports, the deployment is a strategic move to enhance the alliance's regional security.

Reports indicate that on June 24, a German Patriot system officially began combat duty in the Kürecik region of Malatya province. This deployment is part of NATO's permanent defense plan, designed to strengthen the alliance's integrated air defense architecture. The German system has assumed the operational functions previously performed by a US-owned Patriot complex stationed in the same area.

This development follows the June 18 deployment of an Italian SAMP/T surface-to-air missile system to the main Air Force command base in Konya, Turkey. Like the German system, the Italian unit was integrated into the alliance's defense framework to reinforce air defense capabilities.

The enhancement of air defense capabilities in Turkey occurs against the backdrop of preparations for the upcoming NATO summit, scheduled to take place in Ankara on July 7-8. These deployments underscore the alliance's commitment to maintaining a robust defensive posture in its member states, particularly in regions of strategic importance.
