Foreign ministers from the member states of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC) have held an online consultative meeting to discuss ensuring maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, international media outlets reported that the discussions centered on enhancing coordination and consultation among member states regarding the freedom and safety of navigation in the strategic waterway.
The ministers emphasized the importance of ensuring the right of transit in accordance with international law, as well as the uninterrupted movement of vessels and commercial cargo, while respecting the sovereign rights of all littoral states.
The virtual conference was attended by the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani. The participants also exchanged views on the current stage of regional negotiations and potential agreements aimed at de-escalating tensions in the area.
The foreign ministers underscored the necessity of prioritizing political and diplomatic solutions to address regional challenges, while continuing joint efforts to strengthen confidence among all involved parties.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most critical maritime chokepoints, serving as a vital artery for global energy supplies. Approximately one-fifth of the world's oil consumption passes through this narrow passage, making the security and stability of the region a matter of significant international concern and a frequent subject of diplomatic dialogue among Gulf nations.
