Four people were killed and 29 injured in overnight strikes by Ukraine on the southern Russian port city of Novorossiysk. Veniamin Kondratyev, governor of the Krasnodar region, said one of those killed was a child.
He said the attacks damaged five residential buildings, a church and a kindergarten. The injured are receiving medical assistance.
Military facilities hit in Novorossiysk
Robert Brovdi, commander of Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces, wrote on Telegram that warships were destroyed in an attack on Russia’s naval base in Novorossiysk. He said missile-carrying vessels were among those damaged or lost, but did not disclose their number.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the attack in a post on the “X” social network, saying the strikes targeted an oil-loading terminal, military port facilities and warships carrying “Kalibr” missiles.
Russia launches strikes on Ukrainian territory
According to Ukrainian officials, two people were killed and three injured in overnight Russian attacks at a checkpoint on the Ukraine-Moldova border. Another 16 people were reportedly evacuated to a safe area. The crossing near Starokozache was closed after the attack.
Port, transport and civilian infrastructure was damaged in Mykolaiv, leaving one person dead and several injured. Fires broke out after strikes on several districts of Kyiv, but no casualties were reported.
In Dnipro, a 51-year-old man and a 52-year-old woman were hospitalized following Russian strikes. In Kherson, a 70-year-old woman was killed when a drone hit a residential building, while three people were injured in the village of Zolochiv in Kharkiv region.
Diplomatic and international reactions
Russia’s Ministry of Defense confirmed that the Starokozache checkpoint on the Ukraine-Moldova border had been struck. The ministry claimed the crossing was used to transport military cargo from Romania to Ukraine through Moldova.
Russia also said it had struck a Ukrainian cargo ship carrying military equipment and sailing toward the port of Odesa in the Black Sea, as well as a warehouse belonging to a company producing drones in Kyiv. Ukraine has not confirmed the claims, which could not be independently verified.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said an action plan to resume Russia-Ukraine peace talks could be prepared in the coming weeks.
The Court of Justice of the European Union rejected Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich’s appeal seeking the removal of sanctions imposed on him. The court also dismissed Hungary’s challenge to the use of proceeds from frozen Russian assets to support Ukraine.
