Armenia's Anti-Corruption Committee has detained six individuals, including former president Robert Kocharyan and his son, Sedrak Kocharyan, as part of an ongoing criminal investigation into alleged corruption schemes. The Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the news was initially confirmed by the Armenian media outlet "Aysor," citing official sources.
According to the Anti-Corruption Committee, investigators are currently conducting searches and procedural actions at numerous locations linked to the suspects. "In the framework of the investigation into corruption crimes, searches and other procedural actions are being carried out at dozens of addresses. Further information will be provided as necessary," the committee stated in an official release.
Reports indicate that the investigation has extended to various assets associated with the Kocharyan family. The tax service has reportedly sealed a Toyota dealership owned by the family, and investigative actions are underway at the "Orange Fitness" complex. Additionally, searches have been conducted at the residence of Levon Kocharyan since the early morning hours. Agnesa Khamoyan, a deputy from the "Armenia" bloc, confirmed to "Sputnik Armenia" that Robert Kocharyan had been taken to the Anti-Corruption Committee for questioning.
Robert Kocharyan served as the second president of Armenia from 1998 to 2008. His political career and subsequent legal challenges have been a focal point of Armenian domestic politics for years, often characterized by high-profile corruption allegations and intense public scrutiny regarding the country's political transition and governance history.
