Former Armenian Finance Minister Vardan Khachatryan has passed away at the age of 67.
The Operative Information Center-OMM reports that Taron Margaryan, an opposition member of parliament and former mayor of Yerevan, announced the news on social media. Margaryan expressed deep sorrow over the loss, referring to the deceased as a close friend.
"I heard the news of the death of my great friend, former Finance Minister Vardan Khachatryan, with deep sadness," Margaryan stated. According to the report, a memorial service will be held tomorrow, and the funeral is scheduled for February 8.
Khachatryan served as the Minister of Finance and Economy of Armenia from 2000 to 2008, a period marked by various economic transitions in the South Caucasus region. Following his time in the cabinet, he remained active in the country's political landscape, serving as a deputy in the National Assembly. His death marks the passing of one of the long-serving officials from the early 2000s administration.
