Flights paused at New York-area airports after fiber line cut

Flights were temporarily paused at several airports in the northeastern United States after an Amtrak construction crew accidentally cut a fiber-optic line in New Jersey, causing a telecommunications outage, US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said on Monday.

In a post on the US social media platform "X", Duffy said flights had resumed at LaGuardia Airport and Philadelphia International Airport. The development was also reported by the FAA.

However, flights into Newark Liberty International Airport, John F. Kennedy International Airport and Teterboro Airport remained paused, according to Duffy.

Flights resume at two airports

“This incident underscores the need for additional funding to modernize aging infrastructure and prevent disruptions like this in the future,” Duffy said.

The Federal Aviation Administration urged passengers to check their flight status with their airlines and consult real-time airport updates at fly.faa.gov.
