Unions representing air traffic controllers at Belgian air navigation service provider “Skeyes” have suspended strike action at Brussels South Charleroi Airport to allow consultations with a mediator, local media reported Wednesday.
The controllers had been striking every night from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. since September 16, disrupting operations at the airport.
Dispute focuses on night-shift pay
The labor dispute mainly concerns the allocation of additional pay for night shifts.
The union welcomed a proposal by Mobility Minister Jean-Luc Crucke to appoint an external mediator to help resolve the disagreement, broadcaster RTBF reported.
The suspension is intended to give the mediation process an opportunity to address the remaining issues between the unions and “Skeyes”.
