The First Garabagh War, which took place in the early 1990s, resulted in thousands of Azerbaijani citizens going missing. Following the liberation of Azerbaijani territories in 2020, the government intensified efforts to locate mass graves and identify the remains of those who sacrificed their lives for the country's territorial integrity. The State Commission continues to work tirelessly to bring closure to the families of the missing, utilizing forensic analysis and DNA testing to identify the remains recovered from liberated lands.
