Five civilians were killed and 27 others injured in an attack allegedly carried out by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) at a gold market in Sudan’s North Kordofan state, a Sudanese civil society group said on Monday.
“Five citizens, including a goldsmith, were killed and 27 others injured in an attack by the RSF militia on the market” in Umm Badr, the Dar Hamar Emergency Committee said in a brief statement.
The committee said the RSF had established a base for combat vehicles in an area between the Umm Badr mining market and Umm Badr Al-Hilla. It also alleged that the group had looted the gold market and all shops in the town.
The RSF had not immediately commented on the allegations.
Fighting intensifies in North Kordofan
The reported attack came as the Sudanese army made advances in parts of North and West Kordofan that remain under RSF control.
The independent Sudanese Emergency Lawyers Committee said on Monday that large numbers of people were being displaced from Jabra Al-Sheikh in North Kordofan amid RSF military buildups and operations around the town.
On Saturday, the army said it had captured the strategic Al-Jamama area northeast of Sodari in North Kordofan after clashes with the RSF. A day earlier, it announced the capture of 11 other areas in the state, describing the gains as its biggest territorial advances there in recent months.
Since late July, the army has seized large areas of North Kordofan and secured the road linking Bara with Omdurman, west of the capital, Khartoum.
Sudan’s war and displacement crisis
The three states of the Kordofan region — North, West and South Kordofan — have experienced clashes between the army and the RSF since Oct. 25, 2025.
Sudan has been engulfed in war between the army and the RSF since April 2023. The conflict has killed tens of thousands of people and displaced around 13 million, according to United Nations and international estimates.
