European Union (EU) member states have formally adopted a broad sanctions package comprising about 1,600 new restrictive measures against the Russian Federation’s military-industrial complex. EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas announced the decision.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that Kallas said in a post on the social media platform X that the decision was made at a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Luxembourg.
According to the EU foreign policy chief, this is the largest and most comprehensive expansion of the bloc’s sanctions lists since the conflict began. Kallas said the decision demonstrated Europe’s unified political will and steadfast unity.
More than half of the measures target individuals, legal entities and technological components linked directly to the production and supply chain for ballistic missiles. Kallas said the measures are intended to weaken Russia’s military-industrial capacity and make the production of modern weapons systems significantly more difficult, time-consuming and costly.
