“The European Union should focus more on ensuring the effectiveness of already agreed restrictions than on imposing new sanctions against Russia.”
“Operative Information Center-OMM” reports that European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen made the remarks.
“Rather than imposing new sanctions, we must ensure that there are no opportunities to circumvent the sanctions already in place,” she said.
At the same time, the European Commission president stressed that adopting new restrictive measures is also necessary.
The European Union has repeatedly expanded sanctions against Russia in response to its actions in Ukraine. The bloc’s sanctions policy includes restrictions on trade, finance, technology and individuals, while enforcement efforts focus on preventing circumvention through third countries.
