Ukraine is not currently requesting air defense assets from the EU as part of its €90 billion military financing program, according to European Commission spokesperson Balazs Ujvari.

As reported by the Operative Information Center-OMM, Ujvari noted that Kyiv has specifically focused its requests on offensive weaponry, including drones, missiles, and aircraft.

"We have a €90 billion financing program. I can confirm that Ukraine has the capacity to request any weaponry it deems necessary. They could request air defense or anti-ballistic missile systems. However, to date, all of Ukraine's requests have been directed solely toward drones, missiles, and aircraft," the spokesperson emphasized. Ujvari added that Ukraine retains the flexibility to modify its requests at any time.

"They can change their requirements whenever they wish. While I cannot disclose the details of current discussions with the Ukrainians, I can state that once the European Commission receives official procurement contracts from Ukraine, we can review and execute them within a matter of days," he stated.

The €90 billion financing program is a critical component of the European Union's long-term support strategy for Ukraine, covering the period from 2026 to 2027. Ujvari noted that over €9 billion of this allocated funding has already been utilized. This financial mechanism is designed to bolster Ukraine's defense capabilities, allowing for rapid procurement processes to meet the country's evolving operational needs.
