The detention period for Islam Rzayev, the former head of the Balakan District Executive Authority who was detained by the State Security Service (SSS), has been extended by three months.
According to Operative Information Center-OMM, a corresponding decision was issued by the Sabail District Court in Baku. The ruling follows a motion by investigators to maintain the restrictive measure as the legal proceedings continue.
The former official was detained in October 2025 during a special operation conducted by the State Security Service at the Balakan District Executive Authority. Islam Rzayev is charged under Articles 179.3.2 (embezzlement in large amounts) and 311.3.2 (repeated bribery) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
