The opening ceremony of the CICA Media Forum, titled “Building trust through media in a polarized world,” has been held as part of Azerbaijan’s chairmanship of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA), organized by the Media and Broadcasting Council.
“Operative Information Center-OMM” reports that the event is the first initiative dedicated to the media sector within CICA’s activities. It is intended to serve as an important platform for expanding the exchange of experience among member states in media and communications, as well as strengthening mutual understanding and trust.
At the opening ceremony, Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Head of the Department of Foreign Policy Affairs at the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Azerbaijan, read out an address by President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev to the forum participants.
In his speech, CICA Secretary-General Ambassador Kairat Sarybay highlighted the importance of building trust through the media in strengthening mutual understanding between countries and societies. It was noted that the expansion of modern communication opportunities has made information exchange more accessible while also increasing the responsibility of media organizations. In these circumstances, professional journalism, dialogue and trust-based communication are particularly important.
Khalaf Khalafov, Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan for special assignments, said that, within the framework of its CICA chairmanship, the Republic of Azerbaijan had made a significant contribution to the organization’s institutional development, its transformation into an international organization and the expansion of sectoral cooperation, as well as to increasing trust and strengthening cooperation across the CICA area. He said that joint efforts aimed at strengthening mutual trust among states, peacefully resolving conflicts on the basis of international law and ending ongoing bloody wars in various regions of the world serve objectives of exceptional importance. The importance of taking joint steps based on the central role of the United Nations in making urgent efforts and implementing measures to prevent existential dangers, threats and aggressive challenges directed against the world order and the norms and principles of international law was emphasized. It was noted that international law remains the only reliable guarantee for building and developing a fair world order.
