China is actively mediating to alleviate tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan, with the joint consultation process making steady progress.

The spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mao Ning, announced this during a press briefing, Operative Information Center-OMM reports.

The diplomat emphasized that China is consistently promoting negotiations in a positive manner, maintaining close contact with both parties through multiple channels and at various levels to create conditions for dialogue and provide a platform for engagement. According to the spokesperson, Pakistan and Afghanistan appreciate and welcome this mediation and have expressed readiness to return to the negotiating table, which marks a significant positive development in regional diplomacy.

Mao Ning further noted that the parties have reached a consensus and specific agreements regarding concrete working formats for the process and the nature of media coverage for future discussions. This diplomatic initiative by Beijing aims to stabilize the volatile border situation and foster long-term security cooperation between the two neighboring nations.

China's involvement in the region has intensified in recent years as part of its broader strategy to ensure stability along its western borders and protect regional economic investments. As a permanent member of the UN Security Council and a major regional power, Beijing often positions itself as a neutral arbiter in disputes involving Central and South Asian states, emphasizing non-interference and state-led reconciliation processes.
