Chain-reaction crash in Erzurum leaves 27 injured

A massive chain-reaction traffic accident involving multiple vehicles occurred in the Erzurum province of Türkiye, resulting in numerous injuries.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing Turkish media, that the incident took place on the Erzurum-Askale highway in an area experiencing dense fog and low visibility.

Upon receiving the emergency call, a large number of teams from the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), emergency medical services, fire departments, police, and gendarmerie were immediately dispatched to the scene. According to official reports, 27 people sustained various degrees of injuries and were transported by ambulances to local hospitals for medical treatment.

In response to the accident and to facilitate rescue operations, the Erzurum-Askale highway was temporarily closed to traffic. Erzurum, located in eastern Türkiye, is known for its harsh winter conditions and high altitude, where heavy fog and icy roads frequently pose significant challenges for motorists during the winter months. Local authorities have repeatedly urged drivers to exercise extreme caution and maintain safe distances during periods of limited visibility.
