The Board of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA) has decided to maintain the discount rate at 6.5%, according to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing official statements from the regulator.
In addition to the main discount rate, the CBA has kept the interest rate corridor unchanged, with the floor set at 5.5% and the ceiling at 7.5%.
In an official statement, the Central Bank explained that the decision was based on a comprehensive analysis of actual and forecasted inflation dynamics, as well as current trends within the domestic financial market. The regulator noted that while upward revisions to inflation forecasts might typically necessitate a tightening of monetary policy, the current surplus of supply over demand in the foreign exchange market supports a more accommodative stance. These competing factors have led the CBA to maintain the current parameters of the interest rate corridor to ensure macroeconomic stability.
The Central Bank emphasized that future monetary policy decisions for the remainder of the year will continue to be data-driven, contingent upon inflation forecasts and macroeconomic indicators. Given the prevailing uncertainties in the global economic environment, the CBA plans to evaluate multiple forecasting scenarios. Furthermore, decisions regarding the interest rate corridor will factor in liquidity dynamics within the banking sector and the sustainability of appreciation pressures on the Azerbaijani manat.
The Central Bank of Azerbaijan plays a pivotal role in the country's economic governance, tasked with maintaining price stability and managing the national currency. By adjusting the interest rate corridor, the CBA influences borrowing costs and inflation, serving as a key instrument in the government's broader strategy to foster sustainable economic growth and financial resilience.
The next announcement regarding the parameters of the interest rate corridor is scheduled for September 23.
