The Akrotiri Royal Air Force (RAF) base, a strategic British military installation located on the island of Cyprus, has reportedly been targeted by an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) attack.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the incident was disclosed by Reuters, citing Cypriot officials and the UK Ministry of Defense. According to a representative of the Cypriot government, the strike occurred during the overnight hours, and no injuries have been reported as a result of the incident.

Preliminary reports indicate that the drone attack caused only minor damage to the military facility. Witnesses near the base reported hearing powerful explosions followed by the activation of emergency sirens. As a precautionary measure, military aircraft were scrambled into the air, and residents living in the vicinity of Akrotiri were advised to remain in shelters until further notice.

Military experts note that this marks a significant security breach, as the Akrotiri base was last subjected to a direct major attack in the mid-1980s by Libyan militants. RAF Akrotiri serves as a critical hub for British military operations in the Middle East and the Eastern Mediterranean, frequently supporting international missions and regional security efforts. Authorities are currently investigating the details of the event and determining the trajectory and origin of the UAV.
