Borussia Dortmund faced a flight-related challenge before departing for Baku to play Sabah in the UEFA Champions League. According to Bild, on the morning of the flight, the aircraft was found to be too heavy to make the journey nonstop with the planned luggage load.
To avoid an intermediate landing for refueling, the club changed its logistics plan. Some of the luggage was sent on an earlier flight carrying sponsors and journalists to Baku.
A larger, more comfortable aircraft was selected for the players’ trip. Club officials sought to ensure the players travelled comfortably during the approximately five-hour flight.
The measures came amid a packed schedule of matches and travel, with the team having to visit Norway, Berlin and Azerbaijan in a short period. It had earlier been reported that limited fuel reserves could require the aircraft to make an intermediate landing, but redistributing the luggage meant that was no longer necessary.
The Sabah-Borussia match will be held at Baku Olympic Stadium on October 20 and will kick off at 20:45.
