Barcelona president Joan Laporta said Real Madrid was trying to divert attention from its own shortcomings by criticizing refereeing in La Liga. L’Equipe published Laporta’s remarks.
Asked about relations with the club, Laporta said there was no longer a relationship with Real Madrid. “I would even say that we are currently in a state of confrontation. They are trying to divert attention,” he said.
Responding to a question about the Negreira case, Laporta said Real Madrid’s attempt had failed. He said the Madrid club had lost credibility both institutionally and on the pitch, and was no longer represented in governing bodies.
Laporta also said Real Madrid had chosen the wrong path and was facing the consequences. He said the club had spent large sums on numerous expensive players, but they had not delivered the expected results.
Barcelona and Real Madrid will meet in the 10th round of La Liga on October 25 at 11 p.m. Moscow time, corresponding to midnight on October 26 in Baku.
