Former AFFA technical director Bernard Lippert has shared his thoughts on Sabah’s match against Borussia, their UEFA Champions League opponent. The German specialist said the Azerbaijani team’s confidence was growing, while the Dortmund side had been below its best form over the past two or three weeks.
Lippert said the German club were favourites on paper, but Sabah had a good chance of getting a result. He noted that underdog teams get their opportunities every year.
The specialist recalled that Qarabag beat Eintracht Frankfurt 3-2 in the UEFA Champions League league phase earlier this year. Lippert said he had travelled to Baku for that match. He said anything was possible if Sabah showed passion and a desire to win, adding that the Champions League was a first for the team and a new adventure.
Lippert said he had no close ties with the Dortmund club and was unable to travel to Germany often. The specialist, who currently works for FIFA, said he would be in Baku on Wednesday for a tournament for under-15 players and wished Sabah success. The Sabah-Borussia match will kick off at 20:45 today at Baku Olympic Stadium.
