The Baku Declaration has been adopted at the 20th session of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the text of the declaration was presented by Milli Majlis (National Assembly) member Jeyhun Mammadov.
Participants at the event reaffirmed their commitment to the goals and principles of the United Nations Charter and international law. The document emphasizes that the OIC Parliamentary Union will continue to contribute to strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation, promoting shared values, and fostering dialogue and joint action in addressing global challenges.
The declaration highlights the central importance of the Palestinian issue for the entire Islamic world and expresses support for the rights of the Palestinian people. The document also voices deep concern over rising Islamophobia, strongly condemning all acts of violence, hate speech, and extremism stemming from religious or ethnic discrimination.
Session participants called on the international community to take effective measures to combat extremism, hate speech, defamation of religions, negative stereotyping, and the stigmatization of individuals based on their religion, belief, or ethnic origin.
Furthermore, the declaration expresses support for the efforts of Turkish Cypriot Muslims to secure their inalienable rights. It emphasizes the necessity of finding a negotiated, mutually acceptable, just, and lasting solution to the Cyprus issue. Additionally, the document notes the importance of developing relations with Turkish Cypriot Muslims to end the unjust isolation imposed upon them.
The OIC Parliamentary Union serves as a critical platform for legislative bodies across the Islamic world to coordinate policies on geopolitical and social issues. By hosting this session, Azerbaijan continues to demonstrate its active role in fostering solidarity and cooperation among member states.
