Azerbaijan's ombudsman salary increased nearly fourfold

The parliament has approved setting the monthly official salary of the human rights commissioner (ombudsman) at 12,000 manats.

"Operative Information Center-OMM" reports that a draft amendment to the Constitutional Law “On the Human Rights Commissioner (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan” was submitted for a second vote at the first plenary meeting of the autumn session of the Milli Majlis (National Assembly).

Under the draft, the ombudsman’s monthly official salary has been increased from 3,060 manats to 12,000 manats.

Until the law enters into force, the official salary, allowances, bonuses and other payments made to the ombudsman will be included in the newly established monthly official salary.

The ombudsman is an independent institution responsible for examining complaints concerning alleged violations of human rights and freedoms and for promoting respect for those rights in Azerbaijan.
