A temporary commission of the Milli Majlis (National Assembly) on countering foreign interference and hybrid threats has investigated an alleged anti-Azerbaijan information campaign conducted through social media platforms in Türkiye in recent days.
“Operative Information Center-OMM” reported that the commission said this in a statement.
Monitoring found that the campaign targeted Azerbaijan-Türkiye friendship, brotherly ties and allied relations. It was also aimed at misleading public opinion, undermining citizens’ trust in the state and state institutions, and creating polarization in society, the statement said.
According to the statement, the campaign is being carried out in a coordinated manner through targeted advertisements, as well as real and fake social media accounts.
The commission said information about those involved in the campaign would be submitted to Azerbaijan’s relevant state bodies.
It also noted that, under Turkish law, such activities entail legal liability.
The commission called on citizens of Azerbaijan and Türkiye not to believe false information and to remain vigilant regarding the issue.
Information campaigns conducted through social media can use coordinated networks of authentic and inauthentic accounts, targeted advertising and misleading content. Authorities typically urge users to verify information through official sources before sharing it.
