All Azerbaijani Defence Ministry personnel will receive an average 22.8% increase in take-home pay after taxes and other mandatory deductions.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the proposal is included in a bill discussed by the Milli Majlis (National Assembly) Committee on Defence, Security and the Fight Against Corruption. The bill proposes amendments to the Tax Code and a number of laws governing the status and service of military personnel, police, customs, prosecution, intelligence and counterintelligence, justice, migration and emergency services.
Under the proposed new approach, the link between pension amounts and the allowance used to calculate them would be removed. Pensions would instead be calculated on the basis of the pension capital recorded in each individual’s personal account.
The base salary component would be replaced by a rank-based salary, with the rank salary set at 70% of the relevant amount. The change is intended to further improve military personnel’s welfare and encourage them to serve longer.
