A total of 87,146 individuals participated in the university admission competition this year, according to the State Examination Center (SEC).
As reported by the Operative Information Center-OMM, SEC Chair Maleyka Abbaszade disclosed these figures in the preface of the 6th issue of the "Abituriyent" (Applicant) magazine.
Maleyka Abbaszade stated that 58,947 candidates, including 4,215 sub-bachelors, have been successfully admitted to higher education institutions. The breakdown of admissions is as follows:
- 28,108 students (including 1,145 sub-bachelors) were admitted on a state-funded basis (government scholarship).
- 317 students (including 58 sub-bachelors) were admitted under state-sponsored programs.
- 30,522 students (including 3,012 sub-bachelors) secured admission on a paid basis.
The overall university admission plan has been filled by 97.07%. Abbaszade noted that these figures are expected to rise further following the selection of specialties for remaining vacant spots. Compared to the previous year, the number of successful applicants has increased by 1,711, while the number of students admitted on a state-funded basis has risen by 290. The expansion of state-funded quotas in recent years has significantly increased opportunities for students to pursue higher education without tuition fees.
The State Examination Center plays a pivotal role in the educational landscape of Azerbaijan, managing the centralized entrance examinations for universities and colleges. By ensuring a transparent and merit-based selection process, the SEC facilitates the placement of thousands of students into higher education annually, aligning academic intake with the country's labor market needs and strategic development goals.
