Azerbaijan records 114 drug smuggling cases in seven months

In the first seven months of this year, law enforcement agencies in Azerbaijan have uncovered 114 cases involving the smuggling of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances into the country.

This information was provided to the Operative Information Center-OMM by the Working Group of the State Commission on Combating Drug Addiction and Illegal Trafficking of Narcotic Drugs.

According to the report, a total of 1 ton, 606 kilograms, and 95.682 grams of narcotics, along with 20,930 methadone pills, were seized from illegal circulation in connection with these incidents.

Furthermore, authorities reported that 134 of the detected crimes were committed by organized groups. These operations resulted in the confiscation of an additional 1 ton, 383 kilograms, and 889.2 grams of narcotics and psychotropic substances, 950 methadone pills, and 4.8 grams of potent substances.

Azerbaijan continues to prioritize the strengthening of border security and international cooperation to curb the flow of illicit substances. The State Commission on Combating Drug Addiction and Illegal Trafficking of Narcotic Drugs plays a pivotal role in coordinating these efforts, working closely with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and other security agencies to dismantle trafficking networks and protect public health.
