An awareness session dedicated to the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) was held at Sumgait State University on May 12. The event was organized to inform the public, including faculty and students, about the significance of the upcoming global forum and Azerbaijan's strategic urban development goals.
According to information provided to the Operative Information Center-OMM, Farman Kazimov, head of the socio-political and humanitarian affairs sector of the Sumgait City Executive Power, detailed the city's 77-year history and its rapid evolution over the last decade. Ramiz Idrisoglu, representing the State Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture, emphasized the large-scale reconstruction efforts in the liberated territories. He stated that modern residential areas are being developed in the Garabagh and East Zangiazur economic regions according to international standards, noting that master plans for eight cities and urban planning justifications for 101 villages and settlements have already been approved.
The World Urban Forum, established by the United Nations, serves as the world's premier conference on sustainable urban development. Azerbaijan's active participation and hosting of related events highlight the country's commitment to the "Great Return" program and the integration of innovative "smart city" solutions. Emin Huseynzadə, communications manager of the WUF13 Azerbaijan Operating Company, invited the university community to participate in the forum, which offers both in-person and online attendance options. The day concluded with a public festival at Goyarchin Park, featuring interactive activities and discussions on inclusive urban environments and future city solutions.
