The Main State Traffic Police Department (BDYPİ) has issued a safety warning to drivers and pedestrians due to adverse weather conditions characterized by strong winds.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the warning follows yellow and orange weather alerts currently in effect for Baku, the Absheron Peninsula, and several other regions across Azerbaijan.
The BDYPİ has urged all road users to exercise heightened caution and strictly adhere to traffic regulations to mitigate risks associated with the severe weather. Authorities emphasized that drivers of high-sided, tented, and long-haul freight vehicles must exercise particular responsibility, noting that strong winds significantly increase the difficulty and danger of operating such vehicles. Drivers are advised to ensure cargo is securely fastened and properly packaged.
Furthermore, the department recommends that drivers avoid parking vehicles near structures or objects susceptible to falling or overturning due to high winds, prioritizing covered parking facilities where possible. Due to dust storms in open areas, which can severely limit visibility, drivers are instructed to strictly manage their speed, maintain safe following distances, and exercise extreme caution when overtaking or maneuvering.
Pedestrians are also advised to assess the weather conditions carefully and avoid behaviors that could endanger their own safety or that of other road users.
Context: The Absheron Peninsula, where the capital city of Baku is located, is frequently subject to strong winds, often referred to as the "City of Winds." The Ministry of Emergency Situations and traffic authorities regularly issue such advisories during periods of high-velocity wind to prevent traffic accidents and protect public safety.
