A large-scale armed attack by the criminal group known as "Viv Ansanm" has resulted in the deaths of at least 43 people in the Kenscoff region, located near Haiti's capital, Port-au-Prince.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the incident occurred late Sunday night. The assailants attempted to seize control of the residential area, setting numerous houses on fire and taking local residents hostage.
Reports from the "Gazette Haiti" portal indicate that 43 bodies were discovered in the streets following the attack. While security forces have reportedly repelled the gang members, operations in the region remain ongoing to restore order.
Kenscoff Mayor Jean Massillon described the event as a "massacre." In a statement to the "AlterPresse" agency, he confirmed that local authorities, in coordination with law enforcement agencies, are currently working to recover the bodies and conduct forensic examinations.
Haiti has been grappling with a severe security crisis, with criminal gangs exerting significant influence over large parts of the country. According to the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH), violence in the country resulted in at least 1,642 deaths and 745 injuries during the first three months of 2026. This ongoing instability includes incidents such as the late March attack in the Lower Artibonite region, where 83 people were killed within a 72-hour period.
