Arif Asadov, former head coach of Neftchi and Sabah, has shared his views on their upcoming meeting in the seventh round of the Misli Premier League. He said results in recent years make it possible to describe the match as a derby.
According to Asadov, Sabah had the stronger performances before the break, but he sees no significant difference between the teams’ levels of preparation since then. With players from both clubs away with their national teams, he said it is difficult to predict how the match will unfold.
Sabah’s squad selection
The former coach does not expect Sabah to field a largely reserve side against Neftchi because of its Champions League match. He believes the team will rely mainly on its strongest available lineup, with playing time potentially adjusted during the match.
Asadov stressed that Sabah has two squads of similar strength and can compete in both the league and the Champions League. He added that the team will also aim to succeed in the cup.
Neftchi’s form
Asadov considers Neftchi’s upcoming matches against strong opponents a serious test for the team. He said Neftchi is trying to move past a period of inconsistency, but that it is too early to say the club has returned to top form. The expert estimated the team’s current condition at around 70% to 80%.
