President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received Aznifah Isnar Ah Binti Abdul Gani, Malaysia’s newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Azerbaijan, on October 5.
Operative Information Center-OMM reported that the ambassador presented her credentials to the head of state.
President Ilham Aliyev spoke with the ambassador.
Describing relations between the two countries as friendly and brotherly, the head of state emphasized the importance of bringing economic cooperation in line with the level of political ties, expanding partnership in energy, investment, tourism and other areas, and continuing an active political dialogue. President Ilham Aliyev also noted the role of reciprocal visits by delegations at various levels.
The President of Azerbaijan wished the ambassador success in her diplomatic mission.
The ambassador conveyed greetings to the head of state from His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the King of Malaysia, and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, as well as their invitations for him to visit Malaysia.
President Ilham Aliyev thanked them for their greetings and asked the ambassador to convey his own greetings to the King and Prime Minister of Malaysia. The head of state also thanked them for the invitation and said he was pleased to accept it. President Ilham Aliyev, in turn, invited the King of Malaysia and the Prime Minister to visit Azerbaijan.
The ambassador said that relations between the two countries had been at a very good level for many years and that she would work diligently to further strengthen cooperation.
The sides exchanged views on prospects for bilateral ties and emphasized the importance of mutual support between the countries within international organizations.
They discussed cooperation in tourism, including the reciprocal removal of visa requirements to promote tourism, and the establishment of direct air links between Azerbaijan and Malaysia.
The meeting also addressed educational ties. Azerbaijani students study in Malaysia, while Malaysian students pursue studies in Azerbaijan through scholarship programs offered by the Azerbaijani state.
